On the name Aintaer
Monday, March 2nd, 2009
Many people have asked me on the origins of the name Aintaer; what does it mean? Does it stand for anything?
Aintaer is an entirely unique creation following several rules I had arbitrarily set.
- It must start with A, same as Alex, which is the English name I chose when I emigrated at the age of 8.
- It must include a portion of my old nick, which used to be internutt, back when I thought that was supercool.
- It must violate rules of English pronounceability, either with lots of consonants (e.g. Nrvnqsr Chaos) or lots of vowels (e.g. oiseaux).
I chose vowels for anagram potential; plus, English diphthongs are extremely ambiguously defined. The ai diphthong can be pronounced as long A (pain), long I (baibai, Zaire), or short e (lair). Ae could be long A (aether), long E (Caesar), short e (aesthetic). Because of the unusual diphthongs, Aintaer looks faux Latin. In the end, there is no right or wrong way to pronounce Aintaer.
The inclusion of the “inter” part of “internutt” both visually and phonetically allows for me to make silly jokes based off the prefix, e.g. intercom, interjection, etc. However, the construction is still loose enough for other “ant-” prefixed jokes like Antarctica.
The fact that it was a uniquely manufactured name almost guarantees its availability online. So don’t go squatting it now.

So begins my grand experiment of trying to maintain some sort of consistent content for my website. This is simply a ruse. The real stories come later. Real manly stories. Stories that would make a man cry if he knew how, but he does not.
Suffice it to say for now that I in my cruelty, generosity, and insanity, have begun something anew. Again.
Ah well.
